A few days ago, while shopping at a local retail park, I spied a branch of The Body Shop and, in the gloominess of a wintry late afternoon, it suddenly looked very inviting. Now, unlike high street branches, this particular store is more of a sale outlet….most of the stock is heavily discounted. While even smaller than your average branch, every corner was jam packed with special offers, as much as 75% discount on some items! My lucky day!!

I am sure most readers are familiar with the type of products that The Body Shop stock, so I won’t launch into a rundown of their entire inventory. Suffice it to say, that everything you would expect to find was there…..cosmetics, skincare (male and female…..yes lads, we expect you to make an effort for us too!), bath and body ranges, fragrances, scented candles, hair care products etc. You can view their latest ranges on their website by clicking their banner below.

The latest range of gift packs for Christmas were on display along with the current skincare offerings but, as this months budget was already looking shaky, I headed for the bargain section and started testing. There were so many offers to tempt me and at prices that were almost too good to be true but, mindful of my meagre funds, I decided that on this occasion I would only sample a few. There will be future expeditions to this store!
I bought:
2 x 500ml bottles of seaweed & peony shampoo RRP £7 each, cost £2 each
3 x boxes of mini bath and shower gel duos (containing 2 x 60ml)) RRP £5 each cost £4 for 3
Bergamot cologne spray 100ml RRP £11 cost £2.75
The full recommended retail price of my purchases came to a total of £40 but the discounted total was only £10.75. A very worthwhile wee spot of shopping I concluded!
And it gets better………………….
Love Your Body
The assistant who served me asked if I would like to join the ‘love your body’ scheme where you collect a stamp for every purchase to the value of £10 or more. She explained that the membership card cost £5 for a year and that the benefits include:
10% off all your purchases from The Body Shop for one year
Rewards with your fourth and eighth qualifying purchases (those of £10 or more)
After the fourth qualifying purchase you can choose a free product(s) valued up to £5
After the eighth qualifying purchase you can choose a free product(s) valued up to £10 and you also receive a free replacement card ( valid for another year from the date of that purchase)
A birthday gift when you come in during your birthday month (retail value up to £5)
Exclusive updates on what’s happening in their shops
Special offers by e-mail
Exclusive member events
This seems like a pretty good deal and well worth taking advantage of if you intend to shop there on a regular basis. After the initial fee, if you make eight purchases of £10 or more within each year, you will never have to pay for another card and you also get your yearly £20 worth of freebies of your choice. You do have to make sure you carry your card as it must be presented at the time of purchase in order to collect your stamps and the purchase of gift vouchers does not qualify for stamps.
I think this is an excellent incentive as, not only will my discount purchases (of which I plan to make many!) qualify towards rewards, but I will also get a further 10% off!

I am thrilled with the recent purchases I made and realise there are still many things I like about Body Shop products. The simple packaging has a certain appeal. The texture of their body butters is sumptuous. I still love those juicy, fruity lip balms. I adore the scent of many of their products, but feel the urge to throw up at the cloying sickliness of others. In many ways my tastes have changed and needs must be satisfied elsewhere but, rather than our passing acquaintance of late, I think we may settle into an easy friendship
